Nantahala River
Almond, NC
The Nantahala River flows through the Nantahala Gorge in Swain and Macon counties, within the Nantahala National Forest of western North Carolina. Fed by cold dam-released water, it is one of the most popular whitewater rafting and kayaking rivers in the eastern United States. The gorge corridor draws large numbers of paddlers and outfitters each season.
