The Tuckasegee River runs through the heart of Jackson County, passing Cullowhee, Sylva, and Dillsboro on its way northwest into Swain County. It is a popular river for trout fishing, paddling, and tubing, with a noted delayed-harvest stretch between Webster and Dillsboro. The river also carries deep Cherokee cultural history, including ancient stone fishing weirs along its banks.
