Newfound Gap

Haywood County, NC

Newfound Gap is a mountain pass on the North Carolina-Tennessee state line in Haywood County, near the center of Great Smoky Mountains National Park. At roughly 5,000 feet it is the lowest drivable gap through the park and carries Newfound Gap Road across the crest. It is home to the Rockefeller Memorial, where President Franklin D. Roosevelt formally dedicated the park in 1940, and remains one of the most visited overlooks in the Smokies.
