Mt Sterling
Haywood County, NC
Mount Sterling is a high peak in the Great Smoky Mountains on the Haywood County, NC and Tennessee line, rising to roughly 5,800 feet. Its summit is topped by a steel fire tower built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s, the highest-standing fire tower in the eastern United States. Reached by a steep trail, the tower offers sweeping 360-degree views of the surrounding Smokies.
