Headwaters State Forest

Headwaters State Forest is a large state forest in southern Transylvania County, North Carolina, protecting the headwaters of the East Fork of the French Broad River along the South Carolina state line. Opened to the public in 2018, it preserves a rugged, largely undeveloped tract with several waterfalls and is managed primarily for water quality and rare species, with primitive recreation such as hiking and fishing permitted.
