Great Craggy Mountains

Buncombe County, NC

The Great Craggy Mountains, known locally as the Craggies, are a subrange of the Blue Ridge Mountains northeast of Asheville in Buncombe County. The Blue Ridge Parkway runs along their crest, passing Craggy Gardens, where Catawba rhododendron blanket the slopes in purple bloom in mid-June, and the Craggy Pinnacle overlook trail offers wide views. The high point, Craggy Dome, rises above 6,000 feet.
