The Cullasaja River flows entirely within Macon County, North Carolina, dropping through the steep Cullasaja Gorge between Highlands and Franklin along the Mountain Waters Scenic Byway (U.S. 64). The gorge, mostly within the Nantahala National Forest, is renowned for its waterfalls, including Dry Falls, Bridal Veil Falls, and the towering Cullasaja Falls.
