Atagahi Lake
Seeshore, NC
Lake Atagahi is a legendary lake from Cherokee tradition, said to lie hidden in the rugged high country of the Great Smoky Mountains along the North Carolina–Tennessee line. In the stories it is an enchanted refuge where injured animals come to heal, visible only to those who keep watch and fast, and it remains a well-known piece of regional Cherokee folklore rather than a mapped body of water.
